April General Conference

     Every six months, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS or Mormons) holds a General Conference broadcast to all members teaching basic doctrine from the Prophet and other leaders. Over 100,000 people attend the two-day event live in Salt Lake City, Utah while it is broadcasted over satellite connections, TV, and internet to 175 countries in 94 languages then later distributed across the world in print, video, and audio forms. Basically, General Conference is a giant meeting of the Mormon Church. The 183rd Annual General Conference occurred this weekend, with 27 different speakers with varying messages.      The messages of General Conference are basically modern Scripture to the LDS Church. Newtown

Small towns plastered across national news for all the wrong reasons. Intricate stories laid out over weeks displaying a web of corruption and a trail of broken hearts. Too much. Be Great!

If you know me, you probably know that I love most sports. I could easily spend all day watching football, soccer, basketball, or most other sports (probably not baseball, sorry). I love the action of the games, but I also enjoy learning about athletes who excel as people and stand out as strong role models. One such athlete for me has been Chad Lewis, who was a tight end for BYU and the Philadelphia Eagles. I don't think I ever actually watched him played (he retired from football in 2005), but many years ago I read his memoir, Surround Yourself With Greatness . The details of the book have mostly faded from memory, but the message has recently been impressed on my mind: to be your best self, you must surround yourself with greatness.
